Lean Dean x Danali - Numbered and limited to 40 pairs.

Slim-fit jeans with a slim leg in Dry Japan Selvage, made in a very limited run of 40 pieces to celebrate Danali's 40th anniversary. This edition of the Lean Dean is sewn with black thread instead of our orange, a small change that alters the look considerably. Without contrast stitching, the deep indigo reads far darker, close to black. With wear the effect reverses, and the black thread becomes increasingly visible as the denim fades around it. The jeans carry a special jacron patch and a pocket bag print, numbered by hand.

This Japanese stretch selvedge denim, woven exclusively for us by Kaihara Mills, has a rigid-like hand, pronounced coarseness and a distinct three-dimensional surface accentuated by clear twill lines. Ring-spun warp and weft yarns with moderate slub give it a salt-and-pepper texture as it ages, and the twill lines become more defined where the fabric sees abrasion. The warp is dip-dyed 20 times in Kaihara's darkest pure indigo shade, the defining feature of the fabric, and ages into clear, red-cast blue tones while uncut areas keep their depth and contrast. Over the years, Dry Japan Selvage has proven one of our most rewarding Japanese selvedge denims to age.

We recommend at least six months of daily wear before the first wash; longer wear only adds to the ageing. Treat it as a guideline rather than a rule. The jeans will take on character with wear either way.
